This weekend you will be able to check out the most recent version of REBL Brewery’s XOCOLATL: XOCOLATL Tropical Pale Porter.

XOCOLATL is one of REBL’s experimental beers and for this Tropical Pale Porter version they have used aged cocoa and coffee beans from Puerto Rico.

REBL says that “The aging of coffee and cocoa beans is a global trend that seeks to take advantage of the qualities in aroma and distinctive flavors that can be obtained not necessarily in freshness but in their aging.”

So for XOCOLATL Tropical Pale Porter the result is a light beer that moves away from the typical dark appearance of the Porter style. REBL says “The idea with experimentation is to replicate the flavors and essence of the style, using local cocoa beans and coffee from our friends at Puentes Naturales de Adjuntas. They were harvested 2 years ago and from there we aged them so that they slowly lose their acidity and gain body and sweetness over time. At the same time, during this process, notes of wood and caramel are generated and due to the reduction of acidity and bitterness, they result in the perfect mixture to replicate the Porter style, which tends to be lighter and balanced between “Malty and Roasty.” compared to the Stout style.”

XOCOLATL Tropical Pale Porter has an ABV of 5.5% “with a moderate, refreshing body and with with flavors and aromas of our Isla del Encanto…From the farm…to the glass!”
