Ocean Lab is giving one of its San Patricio small-batch beers a much bigger stage. Ocean Festbier is coming to bottles for the first time, following a Gold Medal win at the Guaraní Cup 2026.
Originally poured straight from the tanks at Ocean Lab’s San Patricio restaurant, the Puerto Rico-brewed Festbier takes inspiration from the golden lagers traditionally served during Oktoberfest celebrations in Germany. At 6% ABV, it’s designed to be smooth, refreshing and highly drinkable, with a balanced malt character that fits the celebration without becoming heavy.
Ocean Festbier
Festbier is the lighter, more golden relative of the darker and maltier Märzen many beer drinkers associate with Oktoberfest.
The modern German festival style emphasizes balance and drinkability, combining a clean lager profile with smooth malt character and restrained bitterness. It’s designed for long sessions at the festival table while still offering more character than an everyday light lager.
Ocean Festbier follows that same philosophy.

Aroma & Flavor Profile
Aroma
Expect a clean lager aroma with fresh grain, light bread and subtle malt sweetness at the forefront.
Malt Character
Look for a smooth, lightly bready malt character with gentle sweetness, giving the beer enough body and flavor to feel substantial without pushing into the richer caramel and toasted territory associated with darker Oktoberfest lagers.
It’s malt-forward without being heavy, an important distinction for a Festbier.
Hop Presence
At 20 IBU, bitterness plays a supporting role rather than becoming a defining feature.
There’s enough hop presence to balance the malt and keep the beer from finishing sweet, while allowing its smooth lager character to remain front and center.
Finish
Expect a clean, balanced and refreshing finish that encourages another sip.
What to Expect
Think golden festival lager rather than dark Oktoberfest beer.
At 6% ABV, Ocean Festbier has enough strength and malt character to feel like a proper celebration beer while retaining the drinkability central to the style. Its restrained 20 IBU bitterness keeps the focus on balance rather than hops.
That puts it in an approachable middle ground: flavorful enough for craft beer drinkers, but clean and refreshing enough for those who naturally gravitate toward crisp lagers.
It’s also a profile particularly well suited to Puerto Rico, delivering the character of an Oktoberfest beer without the weight sometimes associated with richer seasonal lagers.
Ocean Festbier is Best Enjoyed With
Festbier is an exceptionally food-friendly style.
Traditional pairings such as bratwurst, grilled sausage, schnitzel, roasted chicken and soft pretzels with mustard are natural choices.
For a Puerto Rico spin, try it with lechón, grilled pork, carne frita or other savory criollo dishes. The malt complements roasted and caramelized flavors while the clean finish helps reset the palate between bites.
Where to Find Ocean Festbier
The big change for 2026 is availability.
For the first time, Ocean Festbier is being released in bottles, taking a beer previously associated with Ocean Lab’s San Patricio tanks beyond its original small-batch setting.
Watch for Ocean Lab’s official announcements regarding release timing and bottle distribution around Puerto Rico. Expect it to appear at their taproom locations at Voivo Beach Club, Old San Juan, San Patrico as well as establishments that regularly stock Ocean Lab beers.

PRBG Final Pour
A Gold Medal at the Guaraní Cup 2026 gives Ocean Festbier some serious credentials heading into Oktoberfest season, but its appeal remains straightforward: a 6% golden lager with smooth malt character, restrained 20 IBU bitterness and an easy-drinking finish built for celebration.
The bottle is the next chapter. What was once a beer you needed to experience from the tanks at San Patricio is ready to reach a much wider audience and that’s something worth raising a Festbier to.
