Brew Taller Experimental, the sister brewery to Dragon Stone Abbey in Rio Grande today announced the release of a beer very very close to Brewtallers Sr. Jose Ortiz’s heart: Borincana Premium Lager.

The intention behind Borincana was to create a beer that evoked the pre- and post-Prohibition period (1920-1933) and during that time period here in Puerto Rico there were 4 breweries: Palma Real (1912-1917), Cervecería Corona (1934-1986), the Compañía Cervecera de Puerto Rico of 1937 (the current Cervecera de Puerto Rico) and Cervecería Real (1949 until the end of 1950).

During his research Jose found a beer recipe from that time period and Borincana is their homage to thw period. Borincana is brewed with American Pilsner, Malted Corn, German Yeast and Noble Hops.

Jose and Brewtaller would like to thank “Professor José A. Mari Mut for his publication “The first breweries of Puerto Rico” and Prof. Javier Almeyda-Loucil, librarian of the José M. Lázaro Library at the University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras Campus for the help in this adventure. Cheers!!!”

Borincana Premium Lager is available now at Brewtaller Experimental taproom in Rio Grande
